Curated and Hosted by Randy Haberkamp • Live Accompaniment by Randy Woltz on the Mighty Wurlitzer • Before there were movie stars, before there were studios, there was Georges Méliès—cinema’s original magician. A stage illusionist turned film pioneer, Méliès astonished early 20th-century audiences with whimsical journeys to the moon, under the sea, and through enchanted kingdoms, all conjured with hand-painted backdrops, camera tricks, and boundless imagination. This program celebrates this visionary filmmaker and the dawn of cinema.
